Daring and Innovative... A Fiery
Fusion of Jazz & Rock, Blues & the Classics
David Clayton-Thomas and
Blood, Sweat & Tears at the Kickoff Concert as Washington Redskins.
Now entering its third decade, this trailblazing band is made up
of highly skilled musicians, conservatory-trained artists who play Mingus and Miles,
studied Bartok and Beethoven, but who grew up on Ray Charles, The Beatles and Aretha. The
proud alumni including Randy Brecker, Joe Henderson, Lew Soloff, Mike Stern, Jaco
Pastorius, Gregory Herbert, Al Kooper, Bobby Colomby... all left their personal stamp on
the band's repertoire.
Blood, Sweat & Tears today, with its most impressive lineup
ever, continues to be one of the pre-eminent concert attractions in the world, drawing
capacity crowds and winning rave reviews. The band under the leadership of David Clayton-Thomas is headlining shows
from concert theaters in the U.S. to major jazz and blues festivals in Europe and through
the world.
This superb band crosses all boundaries, performing with
consummate artistry in front of a symphony one night and ten thousand rock fans the next.
Blood, Sweat & Tears was the first contemporary band to play the Metropolitan Opera,
The Fillmore, Caesar's Palace and the Newport Jazz Festival all in the same year. They
were the first to break through the iron curtain with their historic 1970 tour of eastern
Europe, and of course... there was Woodstock.
Blood, Sweat & Tears' first album with David Clayton-Thomas sold ten million
copies worldwide and launched three gold singles, "Spinning Wheel", "You
Made Me So Very Happy", and "And When I Die". The album was nominated for
Grammy Awards in ten categories and won an unprecedented five, including, Song of the Year
for "Spinning Wheel". It also won Album of the Year and Best Male Performance by
a Male Vocalist for David's rendition of Billy Holiday's "God Bless The Child",
which became a contemporary classic. Five successive gold albums and three more gold
singles ("Hi-De-Ho", "Lucretia MacEvil", and "Go Down
Gamblin'") were followed by eight more albums and most recently, the double CD
"Live and Improvised".
David
Clayton-Thomas continues to deliver the same totally unique vocal style, and
Blood, Sweat & Tears the same fierce musical fusion that made then such a well-loved
part of America's musical heritage.
