| One of the
Best Accapella Groups around
In
the few months that have gone by since the group reassembled (in the spring of 1996), the
proof of the quality of their sound has been evidenced by the company they keep.
After witnessing their performance at Dover Downs' Garden Room in
Delaware, both the Platters and the Marvelettes requested them to perform at future
openings when they come to Atlantic City.
During the 100 performances with Tony Orlando, as the featured
group in his ravely reviewed musical "Jukebox Dreams" the show managed to break
every attendance record at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, in their 17-year
history.
Since then, "The Emeralds" have been performing
regularly with the original "Trammps" (Disco Inferno) and with Frankie (The
Frogman) Smith (Double Dutch Bus) at various live and televised performances such as at
"The Big Kahuna," a club in Wilmington, Delaware (to a 2,000 plus audience) and
on the Tim Quails Show (Surburban Cable in Wilmington), and also on "The Johnny
Petillo show" (Atlantic City Channel 20).
In true South Philly Tradition, they walked the path of Sylvester
Stalones' "Rocky" when they performed their acappella magic on the steps of The
Philadelphia Art Museum while singing live and unaided by microphones at the famous 1996
CoreStates Bicycle Marathon Race in August of 1996.
Whether performing for a local charity such as The Lions Club,
the V.F.W. or the American Legion in their home base of South Jersey, or helping to raise
dollars for Muscular Dystrophy, on the boardwalk by Caesar's Casino or the D.A.R.E.
telethon, aired from Trump Castle, the group has been very busy both socially and
professionally.
They have performed at Trump Plaza and Hotel Casino, the hit play
Tony N' Tina's Wedding and Main Street -- Wildwood, NJ with Bobby Rydell in 1998 and 1999.
After exposing their music to more than 50,000 people in live
performances, another 300,000 plus have enjoyed listening to them on live radio broadcasts
such as Jerry Blavats' "Memories in Margate," on KOOL 98.3 FM, or from Merv
Griffin's "Horizon Room" on WOGL's 98.1 FM, hosted by Bob Pantano, and his
oldies dance party.
But, let's not forget Philadelphia and its surrounding area where
listeners have made many phone calls of appreciation after hearing them on FM 92.1 with
Johnny Midnight and Lou Costello and Buck's Countys' Mr. Lee on WRDV's "Walkin' with
Mr. Lee" Acappella program.
Here's what a few celebrity DJ's had to say...
